What happens when Israeli and Palestinians cook together? The answer is Kanaan!
Kanaan is a vegan-vegetarian and Israeli-Palestinian culinary brand that was established by Oz Ben David, 35, an Israeli entrepreneur and marketing businessman, and Jalil Dabit, 34, a Palestinian of Arab descendant from the Samir family, that owns the famous "Humos Samir“ in Israel and Palestine.
Oz philosophy comes from his life change. He was an active marketing and public relations agent in his previous life in Israel and having lost everything, he came to Berlin with nothing but connections, talent, and a crushed spirit. He began to rebuild his life, this time focusing on something with more social benefit and a sense of good karma to it.
And it came at around the same time when all the enthusiasm about refugees coming into Europe was beginning to be met by all sorts of voices that were much more dissident. He started working in consulting companies to market directly to these new foreign markets so that it could produce a kind of economic peace between the mixing cultures.
On the other side, Jalil had a family and business in Israel that he wanted to expand but couldn’t be in Germany full time. So Oz could fill the gap. For the first time in his life, Jalil reached a more mature place and said: “Okay, so you’re not going to open YOUR place, you’re going to hold hands and do it together.”
Their big dream is to make Tahini an essential part of the new German cuisine and build a market for the tahini that he and his partner Jalil import from Eritrea.
