Urbanization and the disappearance of small, local and cohesive communtities has been blamed for alienation, depression and lack of empathy. In recent times, digital obesity, i.e. the overconsumption of digital technologies is seen as one of the main factors as well. Can we use technologies to reinvent 21st century small communities in neighborhoods and create a healthier society?

nebenan.de has inspired and supported the setup of 320 hyperlocal neighborhoods in 10 German cities, the biggest ´hood´ bringing together 650 people. Founder Ina Brunk will join us to discuss how to turn things around and use the reach of technology to bring people back to offline communities and empower them to bring human touch back to their everyday lives by creating hyperlocal networks of neighborhoods and inspire people to get back in touch with each other at grassroots community events, organize their own garage sales, exchange local tips and tricks and to support local businesses.
