The independently organized event, licensed by TED, will feature local voices and TED Talks videos under the theme of Seeing Things Differently. Launched in 2009, TEDx is program of locally organized events that bring the community together to share a TED-like experience. Some of the best talks from TEDx events have gone on to be featured on TED.com and garnered millions of views from audiences across the globe. TEDxPortobello is an opportunity for the community to inspire, and be inspired, by a line-up of 8 speakers that include a magician, a doula and Cuba's first hip-hop producer. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxYYC, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxPortobello event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
