What is the panel about?
„The Film Industry on the Move? How New Film Projects Benefit from Digital Change and Crowdfunding.“
Nowadays crowdfunding is one of the film industry’s most intensely debated topics. More and more independent film makers are able to fund their creative film projects with huge (financial) support out of their communities.
Seven movies were fully or partially funded via the international crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. Some of them even got nominated for – i.e. the documentary “Incident in New Baghdad” – or even won a trophy at the famous Academy Awards – i.e. the sort movie “Inocent”.
Last month (May 12) Kickstarter finally launched in Germany to be able to offer the same opportunities to German filmmakers and producers.
Startup Germany together with Kickstarter invited high level representatives out of the areas of production, funding and marketing to discuss the development in the US film market and what potentially could shape the future German market.

Filmbranche im Umbruch? Wie digitales Leben und Crowdfunding neue und kreative Filmprojekte fördern
Crowdfunding ist heute auch in der Filmbranche ein heiß diskutiertes Thema. So haben in den letzten Jahren besonders Filmemacher aus dem Independent Movie Bereich der USA gezeigt, dass eine Realisierung kreativer Filmprojekte auch durch finanzielle Unterstützung aus der eigenen Community möglich ist.
Allein über die internationale Crowdfunding-Plattform Kickstarter konnten bereits sieben Filme teilweise oder sogar komplett finanziert werden. Es folgten Oscar-Nominierungen, z.B. für den Dokumentarfilm „Incident in New Baghdad“ und schließlich konnte der Kurzfilm „Inocent“ im Jahr 2013 sogar eine der begehrten Trophäen gewinnen.
Nun ist Kickstarter im vergangenen Monat auch in Deutschland gestartet um Produzenten und Filmemachern auch hierzulande diese Chancen der erfolgreichen Filmfinanzierung und -promotion zu ermöglichen.
Startup Germany und Kickstarter haben deshalb fünf hochkarätige Vertreter aus Produktion, Förderung und Vermarktung eingeladen, um mit Blick auf die Entwicklungen im amerikanischen Filmmarkt und die große Popularität sozialer Plattformen mögliche Visionen für die Zukunft der deutschen Filmlandschaft zu diskutieren.
