Tidy Up Your Code Meetup

ОПИСАНИЕ
So you know how to make a code work, and well, but can you maintain it? Getting something to work is one thing, but at Wix Engineering we believe that’s not enough, and in some cases, something as (seemingly) simple as terminology, can hold you from running faster. In this meetup, we’ll ask how a development team needs to work, what can we learn from the mistakes of others and our own, and how to tidy up your code. Please notice: lectures will be in Hebrew. 🕑Schedule: 18:00 - 18:30 - Gathering, drinking & mingling 🍺 18:30 - 19:15 - How Wrong Terminology Made Us Refactor for Years / Guy Ben-Moshe 19:15 - 20:00 - Clean code - It’s Not Nice-to-Have / Shalev Shalit // How Wrong Terminology Made Us Refactor for Years A while back, Guy Ben Moshe and his development team encountered a series of events that led to the halt of their development process and forced them to stop and go back to the drawing board. In this lecture, Guy will share exactly what happened there, what they learned along the way, and how they dealt with the problem. Most importantly, he’ll explain how it could have been easily avoided. Guy will also give a general background on the world of development: how does an R&D team work, what is a product manager, and how products are actually being created in the industry, starting from interviews with customers to supplying an actual product. Bio: Guy Ben Moshe leads a development team at Wix. Among other things, he is a serial winner at various Hackathons, such as hackIDC, inno2edu and Psychedelic. He has also developed an application that is currently in use at Rambam Hospital. // Clean code - It’s Not Nice-to-Have “Even bad code can function, but if code isn’t clean, it can bring a development organization to its knees” (Robert C. Martin). In this lecture we'll learn about Clean Code, the aesthetics of code, naming conventions, comments, and clean tests. The lecture is inspired by the book “Clean Code” by Robert C. Martin a.k.a Uncle Bob. Bio: Shalev Shalit is a frontend developer at Wix Be’er Sheva and is responsible for a number of CRM projects. Shalev is a web and mobile developer, who has developed applications for universities and small companies, and has even founded a tourism oriented startup.
