German Startups Group supports growth-oriented entrepreneurial teams of early and growth stage companies with know-how, experience, contacts as well as venture capital. As an entrepreneurial holding company, German Startups Group differs from venture capital funds in various aspects. We offer disruptive and highly scalable startups “smart money”. ENTREPRENEURIAL EXPERTISE With our experience from several company foundations, numerous achievements in building up companies, the structuring of countless funding rounds, various exits of our own, and two sustainably successful IPOs, we take an active part in increasing the shareholder value of the companies we invest in. In addition to venture capital, young entrepreneurs can access the theoretical and practical knowledge, the wealth of entrepreneurial experience as well as the long-standing contacts that are based on mutual trust of the team of German Startups Group. Specifically, we offer pragmatic support regarding the orientation and the strategy of the company; corporate legal structure; competitive differentiation; funding; accounting; controlling; marketing and sales; business administration; general management; human resources management and incentivisation; recruitment of consultants, service providers, and employees; overcoming challenges and crises; conflict resolution; and ultimately the procurement and negotiation of exit opportunities. Additionally, we offer further non-monetary services, e.g. we organize follow-on funding rounds together with co-investors, provide members for the advisory, supervisory or even temporarily the management board if requested, and finally accompany exit processes. ENTREPRENEURIAL PARTNERSHIP The executive team of the German Startups Group consists of entrepreneurs who have experienced the relationship between founders and investors from both perspectives and believe in the necessity of strong, self-dependent, and highly incentivised entrepreneurial teams. With our efficient evaluation and investment processes as well as swift decision-making, we allow fast-paced startups to keep their momentum. Our structure as an operative holding company enables us to act much more flexible compared to funds. For example, our investment decisions are not limited by fund periods, prohibition of cross investments, constraints to so-called primary shares, or specifically set investment guidelines. Our startups benefit in several respects. Based on our unique structure, we are one of the very few companies on the market that can invest in all funding rounds from inception to exit. ENTREPRENEURIAL INVESTMENT In the seed stage, we usually invest 100,000 Euros and in the early stage 100,000 to 300,000 Euros in minority stakes in startups, nearly always with renowned co-investors. Our investments in more mature startups in the growth stage typically range from 500,000 to 1,000,000 Euros per round. We are looking for passionate entrepreneurs. Further essential investment criteria are disruptive innovation in terms of product or business model, high scalability, entrepreneurial talent, and – depending on maturity – adequate proofs of concept based on relevant key performance indicators (KPIs), verifiable traction, or revenues. Additionally, we are one of the few market players that also acquire so-called secondary shares of more mature startups from founders, angels, supporters, and other early stage investors. COMPANY BUILDING Through our investment in Rheingau Founders, German Startups Group is also active in the systematic, “industrial” production of companies – also known as company building. In this case, we do not purchase stakes in companies that are already in existence, but co-found them instead. Therefore, we acquire stakes at face value and finance personnel and other costs during the initial development stage in addition to providing office space and infrastructure. We intend to expand this field of activity through investments in further incubators, accelerators, and other company builders, with which German Startups Group often cooperates already.
